**If you are not sure how to wash a certain garment, find the label. The label is usually on the top or side of the garment and will give you instructions on how to wash the garment.
All you really need to do laundry is a washing machine, dirty clothes and some detergent.
Everything adds up to help make the washing process easier and/or your clothes smell better.
Ways To Remove Musty Smell From Clothes
Sorting clothes into proper piles is one of the most important parts of laundry because you do NOT want your colors to bleed through and ruin your clothes.
I sort my clothes by dark, light, and white, then sheets and towels. A lot of PEOPLE recommend working your workout clothes with a specific load, so definitely do that if you want to, but I don’t.
To make sure you actually get the stains out of your clothes, I recommend using a stain remover.
I just spray this on the stain and let it sit for 5 minutes before throwing it in the wash.

ThisOxiClean Stain Remover is my favorite brand and it can remove stains from just about anything…including all the skins on my white sheets ;).
Okay, now that the stains have been dealt with, add ONE load to the washer at the correct water temperature.
Having the right water temperature can ensure that the dye from your clothes doesn’t bleed through and damage the rest of your clothes.
For sheets and towels, make them based on what color they are. Since my pages are white, I make them warm.
Washing Machine Smells
First, you will add your detergent. Reminder – this can come in pod form, liquid or crystals. Follow the package instructions on how much to add depending on the size of the load.
I do NOT recommend getting pods if you stay in mission rooms. For me, no washing machine was strong enough to damage the pod and the plastic would melt on the garment and ruin it!!
Next, it’s time to add the fabric tool (this is optional I’m doing!). I use the Downy Calm fabric tool for this. Also, read the package for how much to add.
I also include these color catchers in every load. I’m afraid my clothes will bleed, even though I sort them well, and this ensures that the color doesn’t bleed through anything.
Tips To Keep Your Clothes Smelling Fresh
Finally, add your clothes. Choose the right water temperature (read above for help with this). The washing machine may have additional adjustment buttons. In my washing machine, I set them to “auto-sensing” so I don’t have to worry about it. Click to start.
I do NOT dry workout clothes, skinny jeans, bras, or my favorite sweaters. Be very careful with sweaters in general because you don’t want them to shrink. The label will tell you if you can dry it or not! I let this air dry.
For the rest of the laundry, I use the dryer on the longest heat setting. When it is finished, I try to hang the clothes or the bed as soon as possible so that there are no holes. Sometimes I’m better at this than others ;).
No, I wash some things more than others. Obviously I wash my workout clothes and underwear after wearing everything (most of the time… sometimes workout clothes can escape wearing again).
