Regardless of the licensing changes, the Department of Homeland Security has set a deadline of October 1, 2020 by which all identification documents must match REAL ID.
Flhsmv Releases New Driver’s Licenses And Id Cards
To make sure your current driver’s license or ID matches your REAL ID, look for the gold star in the upper right corner. If you don’t see it, you’ll need to go to a driver’s license center or tax office to get a new ID. You can find a list of documents you must bring to REAL ID compliance at flhsmv.gov/whattobring.
Bakofsky said the new IDs will be available at all driver’s license centers and tax collection centers nationwide and online by the end of August.
According to Florida Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles, previously issued driver’s licenses and ID cards can continue to be used until they expire. Old design magnetic stripe badges will be phased out completely after March 2027.
“We have been working closely with the Florida Retail Association and other partners to ensure they are aware of this updated information,” Bakofsky said.

Effective February 7, 2022, the Federal Motor Transport Safety Administration (FMCSA) requires Driver’s License Training (ELDT) for commercial drivers. Training requirements must be verified prior to taking the skill test, except for drivers taking the hazardous materials test for the first time. Confirmation of completion of the ELDT is required before taking the Hazardous Materials Knowledge Test.

Effective June 1, 2022, the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and the Florida Department of Road Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety require all applicants for a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Work Permit (CLP) to present two documents proving a Florida address . name Address self-certification is no longer allowed. CDL applicants obtaining a CDL for the first time or updating their address must provide one proof of List A and List B address. We are currently working with the All Florida Safety Institute, a state third-party administrator authorized by the Florida Department of Road Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV). Florida Driver’s Licenses And Identification Cards Getting New Look In August
If you are upgrading from a student license to an operator license, you must bring the student license to our office for an upgrade. If you are not certified, you must pay $31.25 to upgrade.
Florida law requires proof of ID, Social Security number and 2 proofs of Florida address in order to obtain a driver’s license or ID card. To create a personal checklist of what to bring, visit the What to Bring page.
If the name on your ID does not match your current name, you will need to show originals or certified copies of your marriage certificates (or other legal documents) to prove your current name. Uncertified photocopies of marriage certificates (or other legal documents) are not accepted. Church marriage certificates are not accepted.
If you are presenting a U.S. birth certificate with a different name than your current name (if you are divorced or married), you will need to provide an original or a certified copy of your marriage certificate that shows where you got your current name from.

Marriage licenses in Florida typically include the maiden name on the marriage license. If you have been married more than once and your maiden name appears on a document linking you to your current name, this is acceptable. If the document you’re using for your current name doesn’t have the document name listed, you’ll need to provide a document path linking your current name to the main document. This only applies to US birth certificates. An original or certified copy of your marriage certificate is not required if you are presenting a U.S. passport in your current name.

New Florida Driver’s License To Boost Security
In order for your Florida driver’s license to reflect your new name, you must change your name on USCIS documents (i.e., passport or I-551 permanent resident card). You must also provide a certified document confirming the change of name (e.g. marriage certificate).
For your Florida driver’s license to reflect your new name, your valid Canadian passport must include your current legal name (new name). Certified proof of name change (e.g. marriage certificate) is also required.
