Diy Durable, Reusable Grocery Bag
Using a rotary cutter, clear ruler, and cutting mat, cut two pieces of 14″ x 14″ outer fabric. Do the same with your lining fabric.
You should have two outer pieces of fabric and two pieces of lining fabric. Just one of each shown above.
Cut two pieces of outer fabric 5 inches by 28 inches. The cut bar is shown in the photo above.
If you’re looking for a good fusible interface, I use Pellon for all my bag and sewing projects. For this bag sewing project, I’m using Pellon 911FF Fusible Interfacing for extra strength.
Here’s What To Do With All Your Reusable Shopping Bags
Place the fusible interfacing on the wrong side of the outer fabric and follow the packaging instructions. I don’t follow the instructions exactly, I flip it over and use the cotton steam setting and press until the fusible interface is set. Repeat this process with the other pieces of fabric.
Attach the straps to the piece of fabric by sewing as close to the edge as possible. If you prefer, you can skip this step and use nails to hold the straps in place.
Using an open ruler and pencil, make a 2-inch square in the bottom corner on each side.
Turn the lining right side out. Place the lining fabric inside the outer piece of fabric. The right sides of each canvas should be facing each other.

Using the handle of a sewing machine, wrap a vertical seam around the top of the bag, leaving an opening for turning. Go through the straps a few times for extra strength. zigzag stitch around.
Using sewing scissors, cut off both ends of the straps sticking out from the top of the bag.
Sits around the top of the bag. This gives it a finished look and closes the gap.

Best Reusable Bags 2022: Bags For Life That Won’t Be Adding To Landfill
It’s the first day of our 12 Days of Holiday Crafts series, and I’m so excited to start sharing some new holiday crafts for the season! Today I’m sharing DIY fabric gift bags! If you’re looking for ways to make your holiday more earth-friendly and sustainable, these reusable gift bags are a great place to start.
For my gift bags, I chose to use flannel fabric in a cute holiday print that I found on Joan Fabrics. These bags can also be made from cotton canvas. I like flannel because of its thickness, which helps the bag hold its shape better than thinner cotton.
You can make these canvas gift bags from holiday fabric and use them every year as gift recipients or if you can make the bags back yourself. I saved the gift boxes and bows from the gifts we give our kids and extended family, so I plan to save those too!
If you choose to use a non-holiday canvas, these make cute canvas bags that you can use all year round! It’s a compact bag so I think it’s perfect for kids. Choose a fun fabric in a print they’ll love and the gift wrap will be a gift in itself!
The Simplest Way To Line A Bag Of Any Kind
Below you can see some gift pictures that match these gift bags. Bags are approximately 10.25 inches wide and 11 inches long. The bottom extends to about 3.5 inches. It’s on the small side, for card games, a game or two, little puzzles, and more.
Below is a tutorial for making your own reusable fabric gift bag! Very fun and quick to make, especially after you make your first. I’m sharing a free pattern from my resource library so you can make any fabric gift bag you want this season!
You will need two pieces of fabric for each bag – a fabric for the bag and a fabric for the bag handles. I chose to use vanilla for each one. The flannel in my Joann Fabric store is always on sale, and it comes in a wide range of prints to choose from, which is a great weight for these bags. One yard of fabric fits three bags using my printable pattern. Four bag handles fit half a yard of fabric.
If your fabric has a directional print like the cute jungle tapestry, you’ll need to cut the bag in half. If you are using a solid canvas or a non-directional print, you can cut the bag as a single piece. Both versions of the template are included in the printable package.
How To Clean A Canvas Bag (the Right Way!)
Step one: cut the fabric. After printing the pattern, cut out the pieces and glue them together. Use the pattern to cut out the fabric of the pocket bag. For the handles, cut four 2-by-20-inch pieces of handle fabric.
Step Two: Finish the top edges of the bag pieces. To begin, fold the top edges of the bag under 1/4 inch and press with an iron, then fold under 1.75 inches and press again.
Step Three: Make the Handles. There are four pieces of fabric to make the handles. Sew sides together, right sides together, with a 1/4-inch seam allowance to make long piping.
After turning the tubes right side out, open the tubes. At the same time, press the ends under 1/2 inch. *Tip: Press the piping along the seam first to open up the seams. Then press the tubes with seams along the edges. After the handles are pressed in, work the top stitch 1/8 inch from the edge.

Step 4: Attach the handles to the bag. Place the handles 2 inches from the side edges of the bag. The edges of the handles should line up with the lines sewn on the top of the bag.
Sew the handles along the 1/8-inch seam lines. I used green thread with a white wrap so that my thread would match the inner handles and the outer bag.
Fifth step: Close the bag. If you cut two pieces for the bag, sew them together at the bottom using 1/2″ stitching. Press Open Seam.
Now it’s time to sew the bottom of the bag closed. You cover two “V” shapes. Start with a single “V” and sew both sides of the bag using a 3/8″ seam.

Sew again with a 3/8-inch seam allowance for the second “V”. You can’t sew completely horizontal like in the first “V”. Alternately, sew from the front seam to the edge of the fabric.
Once the bottom of the cake is covered, sew the sides of the bag with 1/2 stitch.
Turn the bag right inside out and open the side seams. Sew the seam down.
These bags are so cute when you’re done! I think they are perfect for small gifts and especially great for holding gifts for children.
