Today we finally get to review AMD’s latest mobile GPU, the Radeon RX 6600M. Months ago we reviewed the RX 6800M, AMD’s top discrete graphics option for gaming laptops, but until now we’ve had a hard time finding an RX 6600M to test, so it’s never been better.

The Radeon RX 6600M is part of AMD’s mobile RX 6000 series, which has just three GPUs: the 6800M and 6700M – which use AMD’s Navi 22, which we saw in the desktop RX 6700XT – and the 6600M, which uses Navi is3. These GPUs are not easy to find in the market, especially the Navi 22 design. As far as we know, the 6800M is only used in the Asus ROG Strix line, and the 6700M is found in the MSI Delta, and that’s about it. AMD is using the same die configuration for the 6600M as the RX 6600 on the desktop, where we get 28 compute units for 1792 stream processors. The full version of Navi 23 is only available for the RX 6600 XT desktop GPU, so the 6600M is a stripped down version. However, it has a relatively high clock for the mobile segment, with a “game clock” of 2177 MHz – which AMD predicts will run the GPU at its highest power level and slightly higher in games than the RX 6600 desktop card. .
For the memory subsystem, AMD has up to 8 GB of GDDR6 at a speed of 14 Gbps on a 128-bit bus, providing a memory bandwidth of up to 224 GB / s. There is also 32MB of Infinity cache on the GPU itself. In terms of power requirements, AMD lists this GPU as up to 100W, although every laptop using it so far has been a SmartShift design, where all of the system’s power is shared between the CPU and GPU. So far in practice we’ve seen power sitting between 75 and 100W in most games, but generally higher in that range.
AMD is clearly targeting Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3060 laptop GPU with the 6600M, both GPUs share the same platform and in some cases you can find the same laptop design with either AMD or Nvidia GPUs. The 6600M has a larger VRAM buffer (8GB vs 6GB), but still lacks some features like DLSS and more mature ray tracing support on the RTX 3060.
The test system we’re using today for this mobile GPU review is the Lenovo Legion 5. Our unit was configured with AMD Ryzen 7 5800H and RX 6600M processors running SmartShift, along with 16GB of dual-channel DDR4-3200 memory. Throughout this review we’ll be comparing the 6600M to other laptop GPUs, so the information should apply to many different laptops using the same GPU configuration – though.
Test conditions: We’re testing at 1080p using an internal laptop display connected via an iGPU – this represents standard settings running without mux switching. We also tested at 1440p using an external monitor connected directly to the GPU, which showed us a highly GPU-limited environment. In Metro Exodus at 1080p using Ultra settings, the 6600M delivers performance between the two RTX 3060 variants on our table. AMD’s power target is somewhere between these two settings, and so is performance. At 1440p it’s a struggle against the 6600M. Under these conditions, the GPU can only match the performance of the lower-powered RTX 3060 configuration and clocks 16 percent slower than the higher-powered 115-130W variant. There’s still a big buffer against the RTX 3050 configuration and you’ll still get around 60 FPS on average, but 1440p isn’t this GPU’s strong suit in this game.

In Red Dead Redemption 2, the 6600M struggled a bit compared to the RTX 3060. In this title at 1080p, the 6600M could only match the lower-powered RTX 3060 computer configuration and was 12 percent behind the top-end RTX. 3060. There is an offer. At 1440p, however, the 6600M managed to improve its standing somewhat, now beating the lower-powered RTX 3060 configuration and sitting between the two variants overall. We only saw a couple of games where the 6600M failed to outperform the best RTX 3060 laptop configurations, but that wasn’t the case. At 1080p in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, the RX 6600M was almost on par with the RTX 3070, beating the 115W RTX 3060 by 11% and beating the 80W variant by 18 percent. This title generally performs very well on AMD GPUs, and it’s no different here, especially at 1080p.
At 1440p the gap is somewhat closer, with the RTX 3060 and RX 6600M configurations all delivering similar levels of performance. While we again see the 6600M slide down the chart at higher resolutions, suggesting that 1080p is the sweet spot for this GPU, there’s not much to say here without a difference.

Cyberpunk 2077 is a punishing game on laptop GPUs when running using ultra settings even at 1080p. But the 6600M does well here, delivering performance 5 percent slower than the 115W RTX 3060, and 10 percent faster than the lower-power variant, so it performs as expected of a mid-range, mid-range GPU.
As with other titles, 1440p isn’t the strongest of AMD’s results, falling 5 percent slower to 10 percent slower with the full power variant RTX 3060. These two GPUs are not enough to play games using Ultra settings at 1080p, for the best experience you need to drop quality settings or, in the case of the RTX 3060, use DLSS, which is not available on the RX 6600M.
Watch Dogs Legion is a strong title for this AMD GPU configuration, delivering 7 percent faster performance than the RTX 3060 at 115W and 10 percent faster performance than the lower power variant. The 6600M isn’t quite at RTX 3070 level yet, but it’s between the RTX 3060 and RTX 3070, which is a good result for most mid-range GPUs found in ultimately affordable gaming laptops.
And we see one of the rare examples where the 6600M RTX 3060 115W model at 1440p can increase its lead in average performance, however, the 1% lower performance is still at the same level, so the actual experience is slightly faster AMD GPU. .

At 1080p in Horizon Zero Dawn, the RX 6600M finished 3 percent slower than the full-power RTX 3060 variant, which is a very good result. Then, at 1440p, the performance is bad: the 6600M variant can reach the RTX 3060 in terms of 1% less, but the Nvidia GPUs drag the average frame rate.
In Death Stranding at 1080p, the 6600M was one of the strongest performing GPUs, outperforming the two RTX 3060 models in the table by about 5 percent. There’s still a gap with the high-performance RTX 3070 model, but the 6600M is once again showing its strengths for mid-level 1080p gaming.
At 1440p, the RX 6600M, as we’ve seen so many times now, doesn’t quite impress. At this resolution, it lags behind both RTX 3060 settings, but even if the effect is mainly in the average frame rate, 1% lower is still reasonable in this title. Having said that, there is a huge gap between the 6600M and the much slower RTX 3050 Ti in this game.
