“Our caveat is: contact lenses and water do not mix,” says Dr. Thomas Steinman.
These include tap water and chlorinated pool water, which can be treated and safe to drink or bathe in, but which are still not sterile, Steinman noted.

Contact Lens Myths
This soaking solution contains weak disinfectants. Lenses can be taken directly from this solution and inserted into the eye. If stinging occurs, tell your eye doctor. After cleaning, place the lenses in a container/case with the recommended solution and leave overnight. The case should be at least half filled with solution and the lenses should be immersed. Getting fitted for contact lenses for the first time can seem like an intimidating process, but trust us when we say it couldn’t be easier.
